1. Ana encuentra un libro de expresiones españolas mientras busca mejorar su vocabulario. Ana finds a book of Spanish expressions while she is looking to improve her vocabulary.
2. En la primera página, lee “No dar pie con bola” y se pregunta qué significa. On the first page, she reads “Not able to get anything right” and wonders what it means.
3. Al investigar, descubre que se usa cuando alguien no acierta en nada. Upon investigating, she discovers that it is used when someone doesn't get anything right.
4. Intrigada, empieza a subrayar frases como “Estar en su salsa”. Intrigued, she starts to underline phrases like “To be in one's element”.
5. Esa misma tarde, intenta usar una de las expresiones: “Hoy no doy pie con bola”. That same afternoon, she tries to use one of the expressions: "Today I can't get anything right."
6. Sus amigos se ríen y le explican cómo ajustar su tono para que suene más natural. Her friends laugh and explain to her how to adjust her tone so that it sounds more natural.
7. Con cada explicación, Ana comprende la importancia del contexto en el idioma. With each explanation, Ana understands the importance of context in the language.
8. Una frase llama su atención: “Meter la pata”. A phrase catches her attention: “Put one’s foot in it”.
9. Mientras caminan a casa, su compañero le cuenta una historia divertida relacionada con esa expresión. While they walk home, her companion shares a funny story related to that expression.
